Misc. metals is the scope that shows up on the punch list. Stairs and rails are the first thing an owner touches and the last thing to get installed, usually while five other trades are trying to finish the same floor.
Platinum installs the misc. metals package on commercial, multifamily and institutional projects across Greater Boston, either bundled with erection or as a separate late-stage scope.

How we approach it
We field-verify before fabrication release wherever the schedule allows. Stairs fabricated to plan dimensions and installed in a shaft built to as-built dimensions is a recurring, avoidable rework item.
Egress stairs get sequenced early where the GC needs them for construction access, which usually means installing treads with temporary rail and coming back for the finish rail.
Rail installs get coordinated with the finish trades so we are not drilling into new terrazzo or setting posts before waterproofing.
We track and photograph every piece so the punch walk is short.
Typical applications
- Multifamily and hotel egress stair packages
- Institutional and lab platforms, catwalks and equipment supports
- Retail and restaurant rails, grating and bollards
- Warehouse mezzanines and safety rail
What we need from you to bid it
The more of this you can send, the closer the number is to the final one. Missing items are not a blocker; they just become assumptions we write down.
- Architectural and structural drawings with the misc. metals specification section
- Shop drawings or a fabricator, if one is already engaged
- Quantities by type: stair flights, linear feet of rail, platform area
- Finish requirements: galvanized, primed, powder coated, field painted
- The floor-by-floor turnover schedule
Associated scopes
On active projects, this work is commonly coordinated with Steel Columns & Lally Columns, Welding & Field Modifications, Structural Steel Erection. Packaging connected scopes can reduce handoffs, but every proposal identifies exactly what is included.
